Assigning Priority To Vacation Dates

Hi All,

So I have been pulling my hair out for a few days now trying to figure out how to do this, but no matter what I have tried, it never worked. So I thought my only remaining option is to put it to the experts here on the forum for some help.

I am attempting to improve our small company system for allocating vacation dates. I would like to assign a priority system, where employees can nominate their desired vacation dates, but assign a priority to each period (priority 1, priority 2 etc). Where there is a clash of dates, the employee with the highest priority nominated for that period will be approved, the lower priority denied. If no clash, the period is approved.

In the simplified example attached, John has requested vacation in January as Priority 1, but Bill has requested dates that clash but as a priority 2. In this case, John's vacation dates will be approved, and Bill's January dates that clash will not be approved.

I hope that explains it well enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
