Dear all,

I have created 2 excel workbooks to play the role of a Communication Log System in our school. Just put it on the server, activate sharing property, and u'll have a communication system much faster than emails, and more practical.

The first file is where people insert there messages using a UserForm and is called "Log".

The other one is called "Inbox". Using some excel functions, the Inbox file generates 3 lists:

1- A To-Do list: a list of all messages that where sent to u.
2- A Follow-Up list: a list of all messages that you sent.
3- Announcements list: a list of all messages that where marked as general announcement.

The 2 files are connected through VBA. The whole thing was supposed to be simple, and one interested in using it in his/her company, then u are more than welcome to download it using this link:

http://www.evision-me.com/hariri/glimpse/communicationwww.evision-me.com/hariri/glimpse/communication_Log.rar

There is one problem, the files worked fine for 1 time, then it started giving me this error:

"Automation error The object invoked has disconnected from its clients"

I'm really still a beginner at VBA and i couldn't understand the solutions that are posted in this forum or in other forums. So if anyone can help, just download the files, check them out and re-post them so everyone can use them.

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
ok, i'm not convinced its more practical, email working anywhere across many platforms, and yours limited to a server, and editable, though the concept has an interest to me so i'll be watching. Somewhere I have seen something about file size increase with shared workbooks

Dear Mole999,

Thank you for the quick reply.

1- This file is created for school personnel, which don't have much to do outside of the school.
2- The file is going to be password protected and un-editable.
3- It is a prototype for another one that will be designed web-based on the school website. The thing is this file has to work as a prototype, and prove practicality in order for the school to implement it on the website.
4- The error is showing before sharing the files

Any help with the code will be highly appreciated.

Regards
Sadek

Sharing Excel workbooks is a nightmarish undertaking. There are a gazillion topics on this board on issues arising specifically from this kind of undertaking and lots go unresolved.

Without actually being able to physically access the workbook it is often guess work (spoken from the perspective of someone who always chooses a different tool for multi user applications).

Excel is not designed for multi user collaborations. It is a level of functionality shoe horned into the application.

Use Access, or better yet just do the web version. It will probably be easier!

Dear Scott,

Thank you for the recommendations, and I'm actually designing as access one now, but i also need to understand what went wrong with my workbook "VBA Programming Wise".
The problem is really not with sharing the file, i didn't try it yet, so I'll be thankful if u can please take a look at the code and tell me what's wrong.
