Hi, I am a basic EXcel user but have a task to search for same value text contents in 2 lists then extract the relative date value in another column ralting to the common text find.

Should I use VLOOKUP or COUNTIF or a combination of both? Apoliogies if this seems simple, but I can't seem to find a solution. Any help would be appreciated

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
Welcome to the Board!

For questions like this, so much depends on the structure of your data. Can you show us an image of what your data looks like, and then your expected result?

MrExcel has a tool called “XL2BB” that lets you post samples of your data that will allow us to copy/paste it to our Excel spreadsheets, so we can work with the same copy of data that you are. Instructions on using this tool can be found here: XL2BB Add-in

Note that there is also a "Test Here” forum on this board. This is a place where you can test using this tool (or any other posting techniques that you want to test) before trying to use those tools in your actual posts.

So, if you are doing a simple match on one column (ID) and returning the "Completed" date, a simple VLOOKUP should do, i.e.
place this formula in cell C2 and copy down to C10:
Excel Formula:
=VLOOKUP(A2,$E$2:$H$10,4,0)
