Can't select a button

I inherited an xlsm file from someone who's no longer here. I want to delete a couple buttons he had on it to run macros. I deleted the macros but I can't select the buttons to delete them. Left clicking them shows them toggle on and off, right clicking does nothing. What's the deal?

Sounds like active-x buttons. Go to the developer tab and click on the design mode to be able to select the buttons
