Color Palatte Issues!

I created a spreadsheet from scratch and color coded my entries as I needed. The colors I chose are bright green, orange, and pink (horrid I know but neccessary), but half the time I open the spreadsheet to change it, the color palatte has changed to muted, ugly colors and changes my color coding. I have tried restoring the color palatte but it always returns to the "ugly" palatte. I have also tried creating a blank workbook with a normal color palatte and saving it as a template with no success. Can anyone help???

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Are you shifting between 2007 & an older version? I work in 2007 & use the muted colours, save as 97-2003 so colleagues can open it and they get garish ones.

(Can you tell my opinion on which is nicer differs from yours? ;))

ETA - That's only a suggestion as to what might be happening. You need a real expert to tell you how to fix it.

I am using 2003, but I created the spreadsheet with the bright colors in that also on the same computer. If I open a blank workbook, the colors are normal, but when I open this one file they are muted.
