Hi there,

Hoping you can help me with the following issue!

I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains data for several dates, so:

Date (A) Number (B)
01/01/2011 15
01/01/2011 27
02/01/2011 14
02/01/2011 1

As you can see in column A, there are two entries for both '01/01/2011' and '02/01/2011'. I wish to add the number entries for these dates together, so I would have a more streamlined spreadsheet, like so:

Date (A) Number (B)
01/01/2011 42
02/01/2011 15

I can of course go through the spreadsheet manually and add everything together, but I was wondering if there was something I could do in Excel, to ensure I don't make any errors?

I am using Excel 2007, with Windows XP.

Apologies - I cannot space the columns out, but I hope it's clear.

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Maybe like this

Excel Workbook
ABCD
101/01/20111501/01/201142
201/01/20112702/01/201115
302/01/201114
402/01/20111

if you want to add the two numbers and keeping the text , you could use something like this (assuming they are in A1 and A2):
Code:
=LEFT(A1,11)&" "&RIGHT(A1,2)+RIGHT(A2,2)
