Conditional Formatting question

Probably an easy one
I need to create a conditional format where when for example-
the cell A1 will change to yellow if a certain date is exceeded

but here is the query - I then need the next 5 cells below cell a1 to automatically change to the same colour as cell A1 regardless of their content

Hello,

What you need to do is to find the number of the date e.g 1/1/04 = 37987

Select A1 and select FORMAT --> CONDITIONAL FORMATING

in Condition 1 Change CELL VALUE IS to FORMULA IS and in the box to the right enter =$A$1>37987

Use the format painter to format the five cells below.
