I need to count the number of times 'settled' and 'impasse' occur in a row and add the total together, I tried: =countif("settled"and"impasse") but it does not work

Any suggestion is appreciated

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
You could try :-

Code:
=COUNTIF(A4:A11,"settled")+COUNTIF(A4:A11,"impasse")

Where A4:A11 is your range.

Try =COUNTIF(A1:IV1,"settled")+COUNTIF(A1:IV1,"impasse")

If the above does not work, can you put a sample data?
