Convert hh:mm:dd to decimal time

Hello,
I've tried converting the format hh:mm:dd to decimal time and it isn't working.

My input data values are coming from a SW program that creates a text output.
It is coming in either as general or custom format.

Input = 76:41:30

I want my output to be 76.69


I think my problem may lie in the format of the input cell.

For example:

9685:23:28 is cell C7.
When I highlight it, the formula bar shows 2/6/1901 1:23:28 PM
This is formatted as custom (h:mm:ss)
Then my output cell, C7*24, displays 9685.39. It is formatted as a number. This is CORRECT.
If I change C7 to be formatted as TIME, it also works.


However, cell C6 reads 10584:00:00
When I highlight it, the formula bar shows 10584:00:00
It is formatted as General
When I create a new cell = C6*24, I get the #VALUE error
Or if I do a bunch of manipulations, I keep getting the error.
I also took this cell and changed it to the "Custom" format, with h:mm:ss, and I still continue to get the #VALUE no matter what.

=IF(ISNUMBER(C6),C6*24,LEFT(C6,FIND(":",C6)-1)+("0:"&MID(C6,FIND(":",C6)+1,99))*24)

Ahhhh! I wondered if I had exceeded some threshold. So, I was just barking up the wrong tree by worrying about the cell format.
