Converting Word to Excel

I'm trying to convert "tabs" (word doc) into excel. It's good, BUT the data (numbers) that have stat marks are problematic. The stat letters (text) come in BELOW the number in the column. I really need the stat letters to come in ADJACENT to the number (separate column).

Alternatively, I could format to have number and stat come in together into the same cell (as text). So rather than "12" (a number), the cell would say "12a" (text). If I use this approach, is there any way to set up some sort of equation that would take numbers (out of the cell) and put into another cell. And put any letters (out of the cell) and put those letters into another cell????
