Count # Of Times A Character Appears In A Cell

Is there a formula that will allow me to count the number of times a specific character appears in a cell? As an example:

A cell contains: 2001215-305-FMA008.88

I want to count the number of times "-" appears. In this example it would be 2.

I looked in the Excel Help files, but didn't find anything
