I thought this would be simple, but I seem to be missing something.

I want to count the number times the value in the cell in column R matches the same value of a cell in the same row in column A.

For instance

A1 = R1
A5 = R5
A93 = R93

Then the total will be three.

I've been trying to use the CountIf function - but is there another way to do this?

Thanks.....

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Try:

Code:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A93=R1:R93))

or if you don't want to include blank cells:

Code:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A100=R1:R100),--(A1:A100<>""))
