I have been working on an Excel Workbook that automatically pulls my friends paper trading data from thinkorswim.
The main problem I have run in to is I can pull the buys and I can pull the different selling points. The thing I can’t seem to do is link the two together.
I think I have an idea that will work. But I am not sure if it’s possible or how it would be possible. That’s where I need some help.
Let’s use Tesla as an example. (TSLA) let’s say I start with an initial position size of 1,000 shares. Bang. Tesla shoots up soon after buying it so I sell half of my shares. I’m down to 500 shares but my profit is large. Tesla dips back down and I decide the best move is to up my position as I believe it’s a dip. I buy 750 more shares leaving me with 1250. Then it rises again and I decide to close this position. Leaving me with 0 shares remaining, closing the trade.
This is what appears to be the best option for what I want, upon opening a trade keeping that trade open until the share count hits 0. And in that case it would keep this data separate from if I were to open another position on Tesla down the road.
Does this make sense and seem possible? If so I am more than open to any ideas on how I could get it working. Thank you much!
