Dates won't sort in my gantt chart

I have tried every piece of online advice that I can find in relation to this issue (and there are a lot!) but still my spreadsheet is not playing the game.
In the image below, I'm trying to sort by column L. Some of the dates are a formula (e.g the date from the previous row in column M) and some are hard coded as I need a task to be done on a specific date so I've just entered that date. When I sort by date it recognises some dates and not others. When I filter by column J it actually makes the problem worse and some of the dates become garbage. I've spent days on this and am ready to throw it out the window so if anyone can help I'll be eternally grateful. I feel like I need to upload my file somewhere so people can manipulate the data but I can't figure out how to do that.....sorry :(

in a spare coulm =ISNUMBER(cell) and drag down, if false they are text
