I am sure I must be overlooking something simple but I have exhausted my patience and I am hoping someone can assist me.
I have a simple sheet, Column 1 is date, row 1 for some reason lists the columns by number, I did not create this row, row 2 is my headers (Date, Vendor, Debit, Credit Description and so on until column 17)
When I select column 1, row 2 - 59 and attempt to sort A to Z the header row 2 is moved to row 59 and I was never asked to expand my selection to include all of the columns.
I have never seen Excel do this before. Can someone educate me?

I am starting to feel stupid. Take a look at the Mini-sheet. I can not see a row 1. No doubt I clicked on something and did something I was not wanting to. The only reason I just don't move a the data over to a new sheet is that it comes from a Template sheet. I use this sheet over and over again.
I could remake the sheet in a lot less time than we have already spent on trying to figure this out. But sometimes you just got to know. I appreciate you stick with on this.

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
My best guess is that your data is an Excel Table and that Row 1 is actually the header row of the table and says Column1, Column2, Column3 etc.
If you click in a cell in the table do you see Table Design on the far right of the Menu bar ?
If yes then with a cell in the table selected (row 3 or lower) if you hit Ctrl+A is your heading row 2 selected ?

If yes then
• unfreeze your panes
• copy row 2 and paste it onto row 1 where you have Column1, 2 etc
• delete row 2 (which are now a duplicated heading)
now try your sort.
