DROP DOWN LISTS THAT ALLOW NON-LISTED ENTRIES

I’m in Excel 2003

For ease of data entry, I want to include a Drop Down List that contains the most commonly input items BUT I also want to allow users to enter items other than those listed.

Data – Validation – etc., does not seem to allow for this. (Possibly due to the nature of the word “validation”).

Is what I want possible thru some other process?

Thanks!

Have you tried looking at a combobox?

Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Activate()
ComboBox1.Clear
ComboBox1.AddItem "Dogs"
ComboBox1.AddItem "Cats"
ComboBox1.AddItem "Mice"
ComboBox1.Text = ComboBox1.List(0)
End Sub

No need or VBA, data validation will also suffice.

In the data validation dialog, deselect "Show error alert after invalid data is entered" on the Error Alert tab.
