Used Data validation to create a drop down menu which I want to hide a certain range of columns when a target value is selected. Dropdown menu is in "J1"
the rows are "L:AE".
my dropdown table is 1-8 so 1 would hide "L:AE", 2 would hide "O:AE", 3 would hide "R:AE" .
Really appreciate the help !

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Hi & welcome to MrExcel.
What should happen if 8 is selected? By my reckoning 7 would hide col AE only

So if "8" were selected then it would show all 8 columns, but if 7 were selected it would hide column 8 and show upto 7. Does that make sense?

Does that make sense?
Nope.
In your op you said for
1 hide L:AE (columns 12 to 31)
2 hide O:AE (columns 15 to 31)
3 hide R:AE (columns 18 to 31)
If we continue that progression we get
4 hide U:AE
5 hide X:AE
6 hide AA:AE
7 hide AD:AE
8 hide ???

Sorry I think there was a misunderstanding,
So 1 is in "I" and 1 doesn't not need to be hidden regardless. 2-8 would need to be hidden, so as you click "2" in the drop down menu, "1" and "2" would be left visible whilst 3-8 are hidden.
Is that making better sense?

No it's even worse.
Can you please explain which columns should be hidden for each number.
Please use column letters, please remember that I cannot see your sheet, so have no idea what it looks like, or where anything is.
