Novice Excel (2000) user, what formula would I use to accomplish the following?

If A1 equal or less than 1000 value, multiply by B1, otherwise multiply by C1.

Thank you!

Re: Excel 2000 Q - If A1 equal and/or less than 1000, multiply by B1, otherwise multiply by C1.

This is a cut and paste of the formula in the formula bar:

=IF(C$12<=1000;C$12*B22;0)

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

I don't know what to tell you, it works for me (with , )

Can we clarify what you mean by
"Cant make it work" ?

Does it not allow you to enter the formula at all, giving an error like
"The formula you typed contains an error"

Or are you able to enter the formula, but it's just not returning the value you expect it to?

Are you able to enter ANY formula at all?

A Microsoft Excel dialog popup box displays "The formula you typed contains an error." and highlights the "1000" portion of the formula on the formula bar.

Here is the link to the spreadsheet:
http://204.15.121.136/marketing/Utility-Monthly-Statement-2013-10.xls

Cut and past copy of each formula tried:

=IF(C$12<=1000;C$12*B22;0)
=IF(C12<=1000;C12*B22;0)
=IF(C$12<=1000,C$12*B22,0)
=IF(C12<=1000,C$12*B22,0)

Thanks!

What about this question?
Are you able to enter ANY formula at all?

Can you simply enter a formula like

=B1
How about
=SUM(B1;C1) - If this failes, try =SUM(B1,C1)

Don't understand your last post, but I edited my previous post, please take a look at it, it has a link to spreadsheet.

Thanks.

OK, this formula works for me in that book..

=IF(C12<=1000,C$12*B22,0)

I'm certain the problem is with the List Seperator Character.
On MY PC, list seperators are commas ,
If YOUR PC has a different character specified as the list seperator (I thought it was ; but apparently not)
Then that's the character you need to put in in the formula instead of the commas.

The list seperator character is deterimed by the computer itself, not Excel.
In Windows 7, this setting is found in
Control Panel
Region and language settings
Additional settings
List Seperator.

Re: Excel 2000 Q - If A1 equal and/or less than 1000, multiply by B1, otherwise multiply by C1.

Another way to determine what your list sperator character is...

Type this in a cell (don't copy it from here, type it by hand)

=SUM(
Hold down the CTRL Key
Now randomly click on a few cells (not next to each other)
Press ENTER

The resulting formula will have your system's list seperator character between each of the random cells you selected.

Oh my gosh, its working great now, you are a genius! How did you figure that one out?

I had change my computer List settings to ^, for a complicated Excel export project that I needed to import to our website. Because product descriptions contains commas, it was not a reliable method to perform an Excel Save As CSV file format, so I change the computer List Separator, so the Excel export CSV file delimiter would be ^, which makes it easier to import the data to our website. So if you have better solution for that, please let me know.

Thanks!!!
