extract value from a column when the criteria is met in another column

I have 5 columns, I would like to populate a new column on another worksheet with following criteria:

Populate column 1 with description when the subtype is raw material. I want to do this by using a formula,

Gl Account	Description	Asset	Subtype	Period Balance
123456	Bank Account	Asset	Cash	5000
123457	Petty Cash	Asset	Cash	265
123458	Account Receivable	Asset	Receivables	25864
123459	Accounts Payable	Liability	Payables	15860
123460	Wages	COGS	Direct Labor	3650

I think you can use VLOOKUP function.
