I have a sheet with columns that have "X"s in the cells. When I turn on the filters, none of them show the "X" as something to select. I only have the "Select All" and "Blanks".
There are no protections on the file or sheet.
I have even copied/pasted the data over into a new file and still cannot get it to work.

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Could you upload a copy of the file (any sensitive data removed or disguised) to DropBox or OneDrive or Google Drive etc and provide a publicly shared link here in the forum so that we can take a look to see if the same thing happens at our end?

The filter function selects the range up to the first empty cell of the table, not the entire column. Can you try the process again ?
