Find a value in a table by matching two values

Hi There,
I'm trying to find a way of looking up a value by matching two other values.

I'm not sure if I'm making sense but this is what I mean;
Just say for example I have a row of dates at the top and a column of company names at the side.
In the table there are values relating to the company on certain dates
How do I put a formula in elsewhere which will lookup the date and the company name and tell me what the value was for that date and company.

I'm sure it's an easy formula but after a day of looking at it I'm going a bit stir crazy here!!!!
