Hi guys,

I got a very weird problem. When I type in an IP-address some of them get no point between the numbers.
Example: 9.155.230.148 this address will show with points in the cell, but in the formula bar he shows without points 9155230148

When I put the Format cell as number and use the seperator then he still have no points in the formula bar.

Will this be a problem when I want to compare the sheets with addresses? Is he get the address in the cell or the formula bar?

Hope you can help me.

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
If you have the dot as the thousands separator, Excel will treat what you enter as a number if it can. In your example there are 3 digits after each dot so it can be interpreted as 9 billion or so. But eg 9.15.230.148 has only 2 digits after the first dot so it is not interpreted as 915 thousand or so.

The solution is to format the cell as Text before making the entry.
