Function not working although it should?

http://i.imgur.com/ut046ml.png What I want to do is to enter a players name in C17 and then get all his stats to appear automatically. I tried it with this function:

=VLOOKUP($C17,$B$2:$J$10,COLUMN(D17)-1,0)

What am I doing wrong?

And you're using a version of Excel in which the argument separator is comma, and not semi-colon?

Can't look at the images

But VLOOKUP is simple enough
so

=VLOOKUP($C17,$B$2:$J$10,COLUMN(D17)-1,0)


OR

=VLOOKUP($C17,$B$2:$J$10,3,0)

so C17 is the players name on the same sheet as the data to look up and there is a exact copy of the name which is found in column B between B2 and B10, and you want to return column D which 3 offset from B

Questions why did you use COLUMN(D17)? does the lookup data extend below row 10?

Do you normally use commas to separate arguments in formulas, or semicolons (or another character)?

I worked it out! I simply replaced , with ; in the formula.
