following on from my reply to a post yesterday about searching for files and creating hyperlinks. I have a question of my own

in my posting of yesterday I use DSOFILE to obtain the Title property from the Word document found, now when i distribute this to the users i need to also distribute DSOFILE and the hassle involved, we have a locked down environment for the users

Is there a way of obtaining the TITLE value without using DSOFILE.

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
i researched this and found I can do this with "late binding" and creating a word object as follows

Function fnGetDocProps(strInFile)
Dim objWord As Object, objDocProps As Object, objDoc As Object

Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")
Set objDoc = objWord.Documents.Open(strInFile)
Set objDocProps = objDoc.BuiltinDocumentProperties
fnGetDocProps = objDocProps("Title")
objDoc.Close savechanges:=False
Set objDoc = Nothing
Set objDocProps = Nothing

End Function
