Help needed with particular formula. Having a blonde monent!

I thought I'd say before I talk about the problem in hand, I'm not looking for anyone to do my assignment for me, just to know the structure of a particular formula.



It's a very basic formula that I need to work out.

-I need to work out the percentage of customers that buy an item of food per day.

-It's fairly easy to work out in your head (500 customers per day, 30% eat food, therefore meaning 150 eat food per day).

-The formula I have at the moment is =(B8/B9)*100 (Which I know is wrong but is the closet I could get to anything feasible).

-I just need to know a formula which would calculate 30% of 500. I know it's something very simple, such as a particular function I need to use but I really can't find anything of use.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi Louis:

Welcome to MrExcel Board!

Let us look at it this way ...

what would be 1/2 of 500 ... =500*(1/2)

now we know 30% is =30/100

so now if we want to know what is 30% of 500, our formula would be ...

=500*(30/100)

EXCEL has a percent formulation built in ... so we can also obtain 30% of 500 using the following formula ...

=500*30%
