Hello, I am trying to create a bar chart which has a number of variables and was wondering if anyone can advise on how I can go about doing this?

So for example the data set is as follows:

Managers - Start Date - Investment Period (yrs) - Liquidation Period (yrs) - Extension Period (yrs) - Fund Size £m

Manager A - 2005 - 5 yrs - 3 yrs - 2 yrs- £50
Manager B - 2001 - 4 yrs- 4 yrs- 3 yrs- £30
Manager C - 2004 - 5 yrs- 5 yrs- 3 yrs- £20

The x axis should show the years. Each bar for each manager should begin on the Start Date value. Then for example for Manager A the bar starting at 2005 should extend 5 years to 2009 in the colour yellow (Investment Period), then on the same bar it should extend a further 3 years from 2010 to 2012 in the colour red (Liquidation Period). Then extend a further 2 years from 2013 to 2014 in the colour blue (Extension Period).

In addition each bar width should be in relation to the Fund Size value, therefore Manager A will have a Bar width of 50 pixels and Manager B will have a Bar width of 30 pixels.

I have been trying to create this graph for the past few days without any luck. Would really appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks!

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
I do not believe you can control bar width individually

I would try to make a mock chart on an excel sheet

or have a pie chart for each manager where the diameter reflects the fund size
