Hello - I have a orders database and I was looking to do some data manipulation. I have one row of data by part number with a total qty of "3" for the order. I'm looking to reverse the record and have done is to report "3" rows of qty "1".

Is this possible in MS Access?

Thanks - Josh

It is possible but why would you need this?

If you are going to do this for every order/record it's going to increase the no of records by a fair bit.

It also might make it slightly more difficult when summarizing the data, if you need to of course.

Hi Norie - I'm trying to explode our orders (demand) table and do the same to the supply table. Then I'm going to match up supply with demand to soft allocate order numbers. Our issue is we dont have a way to report an actual supply order with a demand order. I was going to apply FIFO (First In First Out) method to do this based on order dates.

Well most of that's lost on me, apart from the FIFO part. :)

Soft allocate?

One thing though, do you want to split up the orders table itself or are you looking for some way to split the records up with the result going to another table?

That could be done quite easily with a bit of code.

Are you sure you actually need to split the records, is there nothing you can do with the data as it is?

Sorry I dont know enough to do some trick coding. With my limited knowledge, this was the best idea I came up with to keep it simple per my brain. lol :)

So are you saying theres no way to re-create records based on a quantity field?

To be honest I can't see how it can be done without code.

A lot of people ask about doing something similar but where there are records with multiple values on a field.

Even that is usually done with code.

Perhaps if you explained further what you are trying to do someone can suggest another approach.

If you want I could post some code, it isn't really too complicated, honest.:)

If you mean the code, I can't really post anything until tomorrow.

Perhaps someone else can help on the meantime.

They might even know of a way to to it without code.
