Is there a way I can add my own custom number formats to the Custom drop down list in the Number section of the Home tab?

If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
Any custom number format that you use in a file will be added to the bottom of the list when using that file. If you want one available to any new workbook, use it in your book.xltx template.

I must not understand something. That's not working for me.

In this sheet, I entered the date in 2 cells. In the second, I changed the format to "m/dd/yy_)". The first one is still "mm/dd/yy".

But if I then click the Home tab and then the Custom dropdown in the Number section,

I see this. There is no new format at the bottom of that list.

Am I doing something wrong?

No, I didn't realise you were talking about the number format gallery. I thought you were talking about this list:

I don't know of a way to alter the built-in gallery.

Aha! That custom list. Now I see that my new format is in that list. As you said, it's way down at the bottom. If I were designing the interface, it would be #1, but this is M$FT.

Thanks for clearing that up.
