Hello everyone,

I feel dumb for not figuring this out but here goes.
I have an example here:
My current money$ 240.003.509
Cost per matNeeded 1Cost 1Amount MAXCost MAX
Meat$ 60
3
$ 180
2.400.035
$ 144.002.105
Steak
2.640.039
Apple$ 10
4
$ 40
3.200.047
$ 32.000.468
Bread$ 40
2
$ 80
1.600.023
$ 64.000.936
Sandwich$ 300
800.012
$ 240.003.509

So, for this example I am trying to figure out how many Sandwiches I can make.
The cost to make each sandwich is about 300$ and the sell value is also 300$.
I need 3 meats* 4 apples and 2 breads to make 1 sandwich.
So far I have the calculations down, 240m cash divided by 300 means I can make 800.012 sandwiches, i will need to buy 2.4m meats, 3.2m apples and 1.6m bread.
Now heres where I have my issue:
The sandwich requires 'steak' which is meat but cooked.
The campfire item that I use has a 10% chance that if I cook a meat, it gives me 2 steak, so in a sense 10% of my meat will be EXTRA steak.
I want to calculate how many items I can buy at once including the extra steak.
So if I were to buy 2.4m meat for 800k sandwiches, I would get 2.6m steaks which is for 880k sandwiches, but I cannot afford the other 80k sandwiches worth of apples and bread...
P.S) This is for a game so dont bother trying to figure out why there is apple in a sandwich lol.

Anyway, I really cant figure this one out so please help me out,

Thanks in advance,
Ramb

I think where your logic went wrong is here: "So if I were to buy 2.4m meat for 800k sandwiches, I would get 2.6m steaks which is for 880k sandwiches, but I cannot afford the other 80k sandwiches worth of apples and bread..."
If you have a 10% chance of making extra steak on average, you should expect to buy less meat to make a sandwich since you can double it out of thin air.
So if each sandwich requires $180 of meat, but with the 10% doubling, then you would expect:
10%*$180/2 + 90%*$180 = $171 for meat per sandwich (Notice: I'm dividing by 2 and not multiplying by 2 because we're doing cost calculation). It makes sense the cost would reduce when you can double your meat.
Now, the total cost per sandwich = 171 + 40 + 80 = $291
Then, number of sandwich can be make = 2.4M / 291 = 8247.42
As this is a game, fractional sandwiches might make sense, otherwise, 8247 is the answer.

Another thing to note: As probability has been introduced into the game, you should interpret the result as there's a 10% chance of making 8247 sandwiches and a 90% chance of making 8000 sandwiches. Therefore, if you were to play the game repeatedly, on average, you would expect: 10%*8247.42 + 90%*8000 = 8024.74 sandwiches.

Hi, I like your answer very much however I dont think it exactly solved my Issue.
My current money$ 240.003.509
Cost per matNeeded 1Cost 1Amount MAXCost MAX
Meat$ 60
3
$ 171
2.474.263
$ 141.032.990
Steak
2.721.689
907.230
Apple$ 10
4
$ 40
3.299.017
$ 32.990.173
Bread$ 40
2
$ 80
1.649.509
$ 65.980.346
Sandwich$ 291
824.754
$ 240.003.509

I filled it in, it now says I gotta buy 2.474.263 meats, but realistically that will still end up with about 2.7m steaks, which results in steak for 907K sandwiches?
I am unsure if I did something wrong though..

Maybe I've misunderstood your objective before. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think you're trying to figure out how much $ to spend on meat to make exactly 800k sandwiches?

no, im trying to figure out how many sandwiches can I make with my current money, including the 10% extra steak i get

Let's break it down:
You have 240M to spend
Cost per sandwich:
Meat cost = $171 (this already account for the 10% prob. of doubling when turn into steak)
Apple cost =$10 x4 = $40
Bread cost = $40 x 2 = $80
Total cost per sandwich = $291
Number sandwich you can make is 240M/$291 = 824,742.268 sandwiches

Issues:
1)I think the problem before I used 2.4M instead of 240M, which gave you the wrong decimal places.
2)If you want to keep your meat and steak cost separately, then: your meat cost is $180 as you have before, but the steak cost is $171.
3)You would use steak's cost to calculate your # of sandwiches as it is a more accurate reflection since your meat can double.
4)Your logic is flawed above because your steak cost should be less than your meat cost. It doesn't make sense to have 2.4m as meat and 2.7 as steak cost. Why do you have to spend more money to buy meat when your meat has a 10% chance of doubling? It should be less.
Hope this makes sense.

I am still unsure with this answer, I noticed u did 2.4m so I placed my decimals a bit further... the point is, if I buy meat for 171$ it will tell me to buy 2474263 meat which will turn into about 2721689 steak due to the 10% extra. the 2721689 will be for 907230 sandwiches while the apple and bread is being bought for the 824754 sandwiches... So something goes wrong here... I need to know exactly how many meat I need to buy, that will turn into 110% steak, then how many apples and bread to accommodate those steaks. If I do it ur way I still have the same problem of having MORE steaks than apples and bread

Can you show the formula for Amount MAX and Cost Max? Not quite sure how you get those numbers

E4 = E9*C4
F4 = E9*D4

The formulas are all the same besides for the steak
E5 = E4*1,1
