How to create wildcard custom list on custom sort (custom sort contains sizes. s, m, l, xl)

I would like to sort by first style and size. Since we have any styles with all size option.
What would be best option. Tried with custom list with (s, m, l, xl) (*s, *m, *l, *xl) and did not work.

Current sort

You would need to make the size and style separate and use custom list with the size
