Hi Everyone,

I'm having a date grouping issue. I can group dates in my Pivot table by selecting all dates. As soon as I try doing it by selecting a single cell it says "Cannot Group Selection." I've reformatted the data multiple times and refreshed the Pivot table. Still no luck. Any advice would help. I've also tried the following;
- Made sure it was not connected to a data model
- No blank cells or text errors (I even trimmed the data to make sure no spaces were in there)
- Cleared all previous groupings

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
Your dates are most probably text looking like dates ( left aligned in cells when no manual alignment applied). You have to make real dates of them first, and depending on the layout , different techniques can be used ( the most usual one is selecting the "dates" range - Data - Text to columns - Next - Next - Check the data format ( MDY or DMY) - Finish
If your "dates are now right aligned you are good to go
Formatting does not change underlying values. Please post some example of your data with the XL2BB add-in ( see my sig) if necessary
