I can't label my objects

I finally upgraded to using Windows 7. I'm having problems grouping a text box with an object. I never had this problem using the older version. I used the Control key to select the text box and object for grouping, but I can only select 1 or the other, I can't select both at the same time. I can select an object with another object combo.

My reason for wanting to group them is because when I want to label my drawing object the text box stays hidden. I tried selecting it to bring it to front, but it won't appear in front.
