Hi All
I am trying to set up an "if()" equation where I did like to controle the number to insert based on a cell with or without "x"

I have got to the following equation, but it does not work.

=if(AN16="x",BE16=AH16,BE16=Z16)

So the idea is of course that if AN16 has the value x then
BE16=AH16 and else BE16=Z16

Might be a quick fix, and maybe one of you can help?

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Steve the fish
Thanks for prompt answer, but when I type your suggestion in I get the same mistake: "The formula you typed in contains an error".

Can it be something with the setting of the cells, right now it is set to "General"?

Ok you may need to use semicolon ; instead of comma ,
You also may need to use the local word for IF. I wouldnt know what that is though.

Maybe hidden characters?

In AH16 I've entered value 1
In Z16 I've entered value 666

In BE16, this formula works for me (no error message) when I enter/delete "x" in AN16
Code:
=IF(TRIM(LOWER(AN16))="x",AH16,Z16)
Returning values of either 1 or 666
