I WANT TO GET THE LOWEST SCORE FOR ALL PERSONS WITH AN 'A' NEXT TO THEIR SCORE?

THIS IS THE IF/THEN I WROTE, BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO IGNORE IF FALSE

=IF(B7:B20="a",SMALL(W7:W20,1),???????)

SIGNED ..... STRUGGLING!

Based on your example above, what result do you want to see. In group A I assume Mike Taylor would be 1st place in group A. Since the rest of group A has a score of 72 would you show an "x" or would they all be 2nd place.
What about group C where everyone has a score of 72?

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
I was able to figure it out, but now I am stuck with ties. when more that one have the lowest or 2nd lowest score, I want them either mentioned or any 'x' to indicate a tie has happened

Maybe something like this.
These are array formulas and must be entered with CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER.

In the example below drag formula in B17 down 3 rows. Drag formula in C17 down 3 rows and across columns as needed.
Drag formula in B24 down 3 rows. Drag formula in C24 down 3 rows and across columns.
