Ink annotations in protected sheet

I've been trying to find a way to do ink annotations on a protected sheet in Excel 2007. I use a Windows XP Tablet PC. My reason for a protected sheet is that there are several formulas and format settings that can't be changed, with only certain cells free for inputting data. The annotation function is needed for people to write over the sheet without disrupting the special formats.

In the search results I have found, users simply say to allow "Edit objects" when protecting the sheet. However, this has not worked for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.

If you use the Edit Objects feature you can add shapes, like callouts, which can then accept text. Callouts can bee cool because you can drag the tail to point to specific spots.

Hi Smitty,

Thanks for your reply. I see that callouts can be useful. However, I'd like to not go through that step if possible.

We will be working on tablet PCs, where it's much easier to write free-hand over the document, which is why I'd like to have the ink annotations enabled (somehow).
