Hi,

Is it possible to keepa date format regardless of the position of the date in a cell?
When I add a space or line (alt+enter) before the date , excel doesn't recognize it anymore, and displays the original input.

Example:

Hope this is clear.
Thanks for reading / helping.
Bye

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Welcome to MrExcel.

When you format the cell, in the Type box position your cursor at the front, hold down Alt and type 010 on the numeric keypad. The row height won't autofit - you will need to adjust it manually.

Thank you Andrew,

But I don't understand what you mean with 'Type box position'.
I format the cel after i've entered a date (8-9-201) by right clicking .
I adjust the format to 'ddd d-m'.
And then I add a line by placing my cursor in the cel, in front of the date, and typing 'Alt+enter'.
The line is created but the date is displayed as '8-9-2012'.
Sorry if it's not so clear

The Type box is where you enter a custom number format. When you are adjusting the format put your cursor in front of ddd d-m, hold down Alt and press 010 on the numeric keypad. You won't see anything change, but a line feed will be added at the beginning.
