Linking 2003 to 2010

Hi fellow exceler's.

Is it possible to have an Excel 2003 workbook linked to an Excel 2010 workbook.

The reason for asking is as follows: I am working for a client that has moved to 2010, however 1 department (due to technical problems with a bespoke programe) are still on 2003. We have a report which gets its input from a seperate workbook. The main report would look and work much better in a 2010 format. Can I link the data input sheet (in 2003 format) to the Report in 2010 format?

As long as the 2010 pcs are saving the workbook as a 2003 and you don't exceed the amount of rows or use formats, charts and other features that aren't available in 2003 then you shouldn't have any issues.

Are there any macros in the worbook that are specfic to 2003 commands like FileSearch?

I don't think I explained my situation properly! I know that Excel 2010 users can open the file in 2003 format (compatibility mode) but I want to be able to have an XLS file linked to an XLSX or XLSM file.

is that possible!!

As XLSX and XLSM has more columns and rows you would have to stay in the range of 65536.

Are there any forumla issues, ie any thing your trying to link to which isn't available in 2003?

I have just create a workbook and saved as 2003 and then 2007 and linked the 2003 to 2007 and no issue occured. Although it was a very small sample....
