Losing xml custom tab in sharepoint

Our department has an excel file that is distributed through sharepoint. I have written a few macros that move tasks around in the worksheets. I wanted these macros to show up as custom buttons on the ribbon no matter which user opened the excel file.

To do this, I have used the custom UI editor to create an xml script that adds a custom tab with several buttons to the ribbon in excel 2013. The problem comes when I load this file onto sharepoint and other users access and edit the file, after a few edits the custom tab no longer shows up and all of the xml code is lost.

What am I missing?
