Merging parts list data from small sheet to larger sheet

Does anyone know the best way to merge data from a stocklist stored in an Excel workbook, there are two workbooks, one is the main database of about 20,000 lines, then there is a monthly 400 or 500 line 'Updates and new additions' sheet stored in a different workbook created by the shop stock control.

What is needed is to be able to Merge the smaller 400+ changes in to the larger sheet on a monthly basis, either replacing a line if it already exists in the larger one, or inserting the line in the larger sheet if it doesnt exist. Therefore creating one large sheet with all the new stock lines, and amended stock figures.

Can anyone give me a pointer in which direction to look at this? Is there a hidden Excel function that does it all? Do I go for the VBA route or is there another way?

Any signposts would be appreciated.

Hi David,

Give some examples of how the data looks i.e. so we can come up with a way to match/replace/update the master sheet

also post the workbook names and sheet names

Try give as much detail as you can. might be able to put something together for you, or someone here will
