Migrating Excel Linked Files

I am looking for some basic documentation on the behavior of Excel Links when files are migrated from one server to another. We are about to propose a massive migration of data from a standard shared network drive (G:) onto another network share w/o an associated drive letter (\\na\domainshare1\).
The primary problem is that a single drive is going to be segmented into a wide variety of destinations. I am trying to test out various scenarios, but it is really time consuming and hard to figure out if the link is coming over accurately or not, etc.
What I'm looking for is a simple document outlining expected Excel behavior when files are moved and/or copied.
Any help? Thanks!
