Hi everyone..

Is it possible to write a string which has 12 possibilities....?

eg =If (a1 = "July",1,If(a1="August",2,if ....... and so until u get to June.

Normally the limit is 7 "if" statements and Excel wont allow anymore..

Can anyone offer a solution or alternative..

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
There are many alternatives.

Make July a date, formatted as "mmmm".

Then use this fomula:
=IF(MONTH(A7)>6,MONTH(A7)-6,MONTH(A7)+6)

You could use this formula if you have text in A1

=MATCH(A1,{"july","august","september","october","november","december","january","february","march","april","may","june"},0)

...or, following tactps' suggestion with a date in A1

=MOD(MONTH(A1)+5,12)+1
