I need some help with this but not sure how to explain it

I have to check a cell to see if ti has a date in it, if so , then i have to check the current date to another cell, if the current date is greater then that cell i want to change the color of the cell

Not sure what formula to use

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Not sure why you need to check that it is a date, if you format the cell it as a date.

I do a similar thing through conditional formatting. Within the condition I have set

Cell Value to be equal to or less than and then the value as todays date

I have then set a condition 2 with greater than where the format is as original
so this would be the default and when condition 1 is met then the colour changes

Hope this helps

Richard

Are there other values besides a date ever entered into these cells?

If not, then conditional formatting may be all you need. Somewhere within the wb place today's date [="today()], then select the cell you want to change color and click Format --> Conditional Formatting --> select Formula Is, and enter "=IF(A2<A1,TRUE,FALSE)" (A2 would be the cell w/ the date and A1 would be the cell w/ today's date). Then click on Patterns, select the color you want the cell to change to, and click OK. Do this for every cell you need the color changed for.
