Nested vlookup arguments

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and hoping I'll be able to get some help with nesting vlookup arguments within a single formula.

I want to look for the same lookup value (an account number) in multiple workbook sheets and return a specific value when found - the account number will only appear on one of the table arrays)

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks and regards,

Ian

apologies - I'm using Excel 2010
the current formula that's returning a 'too many arguments' message is: =vlookup(vlookup(A2,'SHEET2'!C2:J26,8,,),vlookup(A2,'SHEET3'!C2:I46,7,,))
