Hi,

I've been given a spreadsheet filled with numbers that are three decimal places too far to the right (270 000 instead of 270.0).

I tried using the decimal increase and decrease but it wont allow you to change the decimal place past the original number, so it can never be divided by 10 or 100 or 1000 but can add zeros after the decimal placing.

How can i change all the numbers so that they are divided by 1000 (instead of 340 276 => 340.276)?

is there a cell format for this?

Thanks.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
What about highlighting the cells you want to remove spaces then press on Ctrl+H and replace space with nothing.

Is this a display issue only (kie you want the cells to retain the original number but display differently)? If so you could apply a custom number format of say:

#,##0.000,

to the cells (don't omit the trailing comma).

If you do want all the numbers changed, then type 1000 in a cell, copy the cell, select all the cells you want to divide by 1000 and go Edit>PasteSpecial>Operation:=Divide>Finish
