Anyone experienced issue with paste special ?

It happens quite inconsistently, sometime when i use shortcut key to paste special (formatting, formula, values, etc...) it turned to "paste link".

Excel Facts

Copy PDF to Excel
Select data in PDF. Paste to Microsoft Word. Copy from Word and paste to Excel.
Which shortcut key are you referring to ?
If you are copying within Excel between workbooks, check if they are open in the same instance of Excel or in separate instances

Once you get to Alt,E,S (you can also get there with Ctrl+Alt+V) do you see the normal paste special options or different options.

First screenshot, normal one.

Been using the same laptop (&excel version) for a few years, but this issue only happens recently. This issue is quite annoying as it happens inconsistently and error-prone.

I am not sure that I can be of any help. The next time it happens, take a note of the fact that you definitely saw the 1st normal screen. Also when it happens see if Ctrl+Alt+V behaves any differently.
Also does it happen if you are copying within the same workbook or only when you are copying between workbooks. If between workbooks go View > Switch Windows and check that you can see both the source and target workbooks in the drop down box to ensure they are in the same Excel instance.
