I have a pivot table where I have to sort on total in descending order. When I right click & select sort, nothing happens. There is no error either. It looks as if Excel is not responding anything at all. Not sure what is going wrong. Can someone help to resolve this please?

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Where are you right clicking ?
Try right clicking in the ACCOUNT field and then Select > Sort > More Sort Options > Total > Descending.

Thanks for the quick response, Alex. I want to sort on the total, not on account. If I sort with account, it sorts account by count of total in descending order. That doesn't give the intended result compared to sort total in descending order.

In More sort options Account should only allow you to sort by the fields that are in your pivot table.
Based on your image that is Total.
What I believe is happening is that you are trying to sort directly on the Total column and that is sorting "within" the last row field to its left being Account name status. Since the row combination is unique it won't be obvious that it did a sort at all.

Your image is not showing and of the symbols that normally appear in the heading, which would normally give some indication of what it is doing.
Also are you using a standard pivot or are you using the data model.

If you can't get it working using the above, give us some data to work with using XL2BB.

Solution
Got it :). I sorted on account with descending total & it worked. Thanks for your help (y)

The table shown is a dummy one for illustration only since the actual data is confidential & can't share it.
