Using Excel 2010.

Using a Pivot Table to sum "quantity sold" for a list of items. I am also pulling in the "description" field for each item but some items have 2 descriptions, thus creating two rows and in my pivot table for items with 2 descriptions.

I only want 1 description per item and I don't care which one it pulls from the data if multiple descriptions exist.

Is there an equivalent of "First" that I can use, similar to what you would use in an Access query? Thanks.

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Hi
No! Excel pivots just group on unique values however there maybe a couple of options ...

1. Are the differences due to the same types of occurances such as trailing spaces or similar? whereby you could the tidy your source data with a formula or add a calculated field in your pivot to clean the description field? ie trim() or left() or mid()...

2. Where is your source data? if it is in Excel you could name the range of your data and connect to it as if it was external data. You could then use MSQuery which allows you to use SQL. You can then use "First" in the same way as you would in Access.
