Powerpivot for Excel 2010 Error Msg Inputting Formula

Just to be clear, I am not talking about a error in terms of formula syntax. No, I think there is a problem with my install of PP. So here is what happens:

I want to create a calculated column, so I click on a cell (top most) in the 'Add Column'. As soon as I do this, I get this msg:

"Unhandled expection has occured in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Return argument has an invalid type."

So after clicking on the cell, when I type '=' to begin entering a formula, the above error msg pops up.

Has anyone encountered this? I had the IT department uninstall and re-install PP but still it pops up.

I am using PP version 11.0.5058.0 on Office 2010.
