Problem creating reference

I am trying to modify a reference to an external file. Currently I have

which works just fine. The "11122009" part of the string refers to a date specifying a specific file. I would like to be able to adjust the date based on the data in another cell.

I can create the string, but not pull in the reference.

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
Unless you use a macro to change the actual formula in the cell when you enter the text value in a separate cell, then the only other method is INDIRECT(). But that function doesn't work on closed workbooks. You would need to add additional code to your sheet for that...and if you're going to add code to the workbook, you might as well just add a macro that changes the actual formula in the cell so no other special UDF is needed.
