query on difference between excel 2003 and excel 2007

in excel 2003 i have a formual of char(13)&char(10) which appear in the cells as 2 squares.

Doing the same thing in excel 2007 the cell appears to be empty?

Does anyone know why these no longer display squares? It is useful for this spreadsheet for these to be visible.

just tried it in 2007
they show up as two squares with question marks in them.

Though that really depends on the font you are using - so if you want a different result, play with your fonts in that cell for a little bit.

hi can i ask what font you used that worked?

I have tried about 10 different fonts now and its still not appearing?

could it be an operating system setting? or some other setting in excel?

we are running vista.
